Troubleshooting Ideas
Before you take the time to bring them for repair, there are a number of minor issues that you and try at home. These minor issues can cause your hearing aids to malfunction or maybe just not work their best. Tyr checking the following if your hearing aids aren’t working properly:
- Try cleaning your hearing aids: When dirt, debris and earwax stuck get stuck in the crevices of your device, it can cause your hearing to sound muffled and your hearing aids can even make a whistling sound. Try visually inspect to see if it is dirty, and if so, try gently cleaning it off with a dry cloth. If this is challenging for you, bring them into one of our locations for a professional cleaning!
- Try changing the hearing aid batteries: It’s no secret that dead, low power, or old hearing aid batteries can cause your hearing aid to malfunction – but maybe the brand new ones you just put in were bad? Replacing your worn out batteries with a fresh new pair may solve your problem – or maybe those NEW batteries you put in were defective!
- Try checking your hearing aid settings: Chances are, your hearing aids have multiple settings to account for your different listening needs and uses. Maybe you accidently adjusted a setting and switched modes? Look to see that they are in the correct mode. This may be confusing so if you need help, all you have to do is swing by one of our locations and we can look at the settings for you!
- Try checking your volume: This may seem obvious, but there is a chance that your hearing aid isn’t working because you accidently turned the volume down. Just double check your volume settings to make sure they’re at the right level.

When all else fails, and hearing aid repairs are needed
If maintenance, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting didn’t help, and your hearing aids still aren’t working and need repairs, just schedule an appointment to see one of our on-site professionals to help fix your hearing aids.
We are happy to assist you with your hearing aid’s repairs, even if you aren’t a current patient, or you didn’t purchase your hearing aids through one of our offices. If your hearing aids are severely damaged or broken and we are unable to perform the fix onsite, our staff will coordinate sending your device(s) back to the manufacturer. We’re hearing aid device experts and will work with the manufacturer to understand the problem, establish a timeline for when your hearing aids will be repaired and returned, and offer expert advice about replacement (if they are not repairable or it is not cost effective to have them fixed).

Most insurance typically covers the cost of earwax removal services, with the patient paying only their standard policy deductible. However, the cost of earwax removal is not as expensive as you might think – without going through insurance, the cost of a standard earwax removal is $95.00 for either one ear or two.
